One dead in Lexington County house fire, coroner’s office says

One man is dead after an early morning fire at a Lexington home.

Wilfrid Demers, age 91, was found dead when firefighters responded to a blaze at a home on the 100 block of Longview Street just after 12 a.m. Wednesday, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher.

The fire and Demers’ death remain under investigation by the coroner’s office and the State Law Enforcement Division, Fisher said in a statement. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The fire occurred just south of Boiling Springs Road in the Edmund community of Lexington County, about 10 miles south of the town of Lexington.
