There’s a new restaurant for those looking for sandwiches, salads and more in the area near northeast Columbia.

Brown Bag Deli at Spears Creek opened its doors in late March at 100 Pontiac Business Center Drive in Elgin, just off busy Spears Creek Church Road. That’s in the Spears Creek Point shopping strip just north of Interstate 20, near Pontiac Elementary School.

The Brown Bag Deli restaurant is a brick-and-mortar location for a business that has been a popular food truck in the Midlands in recent years. The new restaurant, which has dine-in and takeout options, has been busy in its early days.

“Wow, what a first week!” Brown Bag Deli said in a March 29 post on Facebook. “From day one your incredible support has been overwhelming, and we are beyond grateful.”

The menu at Brown Bag Deli includes a roster of hot and cold subs, as well as salads, soups, sweet treats and more.

Among the cold subs is the Spicy Italiano, which comes with pepperoni, salami, spicy capicola, sharp provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, banana peppers, oil, vinegar and mayo. Meanwhile, the extensive hot sub menu includes the Fatboy, a hulking sandwich that comes with crispy chicken, bacon, pepper jack cheese, tomatoes, jalapeno poppers, and scallion Parmesan aioli.

The new restaurant is located just off busy Spears Creek Church Road, with nearby restaurants including Scoop of Heaven ice cream, Breakfast at Ruiz, and Starbucks, among many others. About 10,000 cars per day travel down Spears Creek Church Road, per state Department of Transportation statistics, while about 68,000 cars per day traverse Interstate 20 nearby.
