Looking for a well-paying job and not concerned about risk? There are options available in South Carolina, from police and fire to hauling dangerous goods.

According to job-posting site indeed.com, a dangerous job is “one that exposes employees to some type of major risk — a dangerous job may involve heavy machinery, harmful substances, distracted drivers or dangerous weather.”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics list for 2024 include:

  • 103 fatal work injuries in South Carolina in 2024.
  • Transportation incidents (40) were the most frequent type of fatal event in South Carolina, accounting for 39% of all fatal work injuries in the state. The share is 37% nationally.
  • The construction sector had the highest number of fatalities at 23.
  • Wage and salary workers accounted for 91 workplace fatalities in the state.
  • Exposure to harmful substances or environments (24) accounted for 23 percent of South Carolina worker fatalities; nationally the share was 14 percent.
