A Columbia restaurant that has proven popular for acai bowls and smoothies is planning a Lexington location.

Surf’s Up Acai Bowls has had a location at 504 Gervais St. in Columbia, in the same building as Rebel Dogs, for about two years. Now, as announced in a late March Facebook post, the company says it is planning a location in Lexington, not far from Lexington High School.

“We listen, we improve, and we grow with our community,” Surf’s Up said in the social media post. “Because of your support, we now have the confidence and the opportunity to expand.”

The Surf’s Up in Lexington is listed in the commercial activity section of the Lexington County Planning Commission’s April 16 agenda paperwork. The planning commission documents indicate the acai bowl shop would be at 1812 Augusta Highway suite K. That’s in the Hope Plaza shopping center, which is less than two miles east of Lexington High School.

An opening date for the Lexington Surf’s Up has not been publicly announced, though the company said in its recent social media post that it is aiming for a summer debut.

The Gervais Street Columbia version of Surf’s Up opened in March 2024. The shop’s menu includes a host of specialty acai bowls, as well as smoothies and more. Among the acai bowls on its roster is the Ocean Dream, which includes blueberry, raspberry, honey, coconut oil, almond and granola.
