Suspect dead, victim injured in Columbia shooting, sheriff’s department says

A man is dead and a woman was critically injured following a shooting incident in Columbia, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The sheriff’s department said in a release that it responded at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday to the 200 block of Pond Ridge Road East in northeast Columbia in reference to a shooting. That’s just north of Two Notch Road and near North Springs Road.

When deputies got to the scene they found a man dead and woman with a single gunshot wound to the upper body, the news release said.

According to the sheriff’s department, the investigation indicated the deceased man, Christopher Todd, 39, shot the woman before shooting himself. The woman was taken to a local hospital and was in critical condition as of Saturday.
