Two drivers are dead following a head-on crash along an interstate in Richland County in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

South Carolina Highway Patrol Master Trooper Joseph Rowell said in a news release that the crash happened at about 2:25 a.m. Sunday near the 107.5 mile marker along Interstate 26 in Richland County. That’s in the Bush Rover Road area.

The Highway Patrol said that a 2023 Hyundai sedan was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 26, while a 2018 Nissan SUV was traveling west in the westbound lanes. The Hyundai struck the Nissan head-on, the Highway Patrol said.

The drivers of each of the vehicles died in the wreck, Rowell said.

The names of the deceased had not been released as of Sunday morning. The Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
