Internet company must stop work. Gas line damage forced SC residents to shelter
A fiber-optic company must stop work in Lexington, after damaging Dominion Energy gas lines, the town announced Thursday.
The town issued Kinetic Fiber Internet a stop work order. According to a news release, the company hit and damaged “multiple” Dominion Energy gas lines, including 2-inch gas main break that resulted in a shelter-in-place for parts of the Woodcreek neighborhood.
“The Town will not tolerate actions that threaten vital infrastructure or disrupt the daily lives of our citizens,” Mayor Hazel Livingston said in a news release. “Our focus remains on protecting public safety, preserving essential services, and ensuring the well-being of the community.”
The State has reached out to Kinetic Fiber Internet for more information.
The stop work order will remain in effect until the Town of Lexington meets with Dominion Energy and the Lexington County Fire Service to address issues and determine a path forward to prevent further disruptions.
The town must allow the company access to “right-of-way” under state and federal law, but according to a news release, the town must also providers accountable for “adhering to safety standards and protecting vital infrastructure.”
