A man has been arrested following a Thursday shootout at a Columbia apartment complex.

Columbia Police Department announced Friday it had arrested Honor James-Everette and charged him with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Officers responded at about noon Thursday to the Colony Apartments on Bailey Street after getting reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found one person with an injury to their arm, and another with an injury to their leg.

In a Friday Facebook post, Columbia Police said investigators determined that James-Everette fired a handgun and hit the victim in the shoulder. The victim then returned fire, police said, and hit James-Everette in the leg. Both the victim and the suspect were taken to Prisma Health Richland for treatment.

Everette was being held at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center as of Friday morning.
