Columbia has a vibrant local music scene that caters to any musical taste, whether you’re into country and pop, or rock and rap.

There are plenty of venues to choose from, but every city has its favorites. Yelp keeps track of the best music venues in every area across the country by using user reviews and ratings.

The Senate

The Senate is a 1,200-capacity concert and event center, located in the Vista. According to their website, the 5,400 square-foot space offers first-class audio and visual capabilities, multiple bars, and flexible floor plans to accommodate concerts, weddings, corporate receptions, and other private functions.

Well-known artists, such as J Cole, Morgan Wallen, Third Eye Blind and Luke Combs have performed at The Senate, making it a popular destination for USC students and Columbia visitors.

New Brookland Tavern

Located in the heart of Five Points, New Brookland Tavern is a hub for local alternative, metal and rock bands, as well as many other genres. It’s the longest continuously run music venue in the Columbia area, and is a great place for students to experience the best of local artists.

The address is 632 Harden St, Columbia.

Township Auditorium

The Township Auditorium is a historic music venue that was originally built in 1930, and is a three-story, brick building. Famous artists, such as Elvis Presley, Duke Ellington and Bob Dylan, performed at this venue back in the day.

More modern artists, like Lil Wayne and Godsmack, also graced the Township Auditorium’s stage.

Skyline Club

Looking for a place to dust off your cowboy boots? Established in 1949, the Skyline Club is one of the Midlands’ most iconic country and western nightclubs and has earned a legendary reputation. They’re known for their massive dance floor, live bands and high-energy weekends.

The venue closed in 2023, but new ownership brought it back to life last year.

The address is 100 Lee St, West Columbia.

Tin Roof

Tin Roof is nestled right by the Vista and is a popular music bar that gives local musicians a place to play and a place to hang out when they aren’t on stage.

According to their website, they feature live music with a mix of local, regional and national acts across all genres. Weeknights will showcase original songwriter nights, acoustic sets during dinner, along with lots of other fun, music-focused special events.

Weekend nights are when Tin Roof rocks with live bands on stage, playing the audience’s favorite songs to keep the dance floor rockin’ until the end of the night.
