Grease buildup, beef stored on the floor, and employees not washing hands were seen by South Carolina Department of Agriculture inspectors at Greenville-area restaurants in April.

In all, inspectors made 417 inspections with 391 receiving an A and 22 a B.

One Travelers Rest restaurant initially received a C while two others first received Bs then were marked down to a C on re-inspection.

Core 450 in Travelers Rest was inspected on April 9 and received 75 points, a C.

The inspector saw a staff member drink from a glass without a lid and straw and two staff members handle food without gloves.

A sink was blocked by a stack of drinks.

In the walk-in cooler raw proteins were stored over unprotected ready to eat food and deli meats, cooked ribs, chicken, sauces did not have date markings. Also, there was a large pan of cooked beef stored on the floor.

The slicer had excessive organic buildup.

There were two unlabeled spray bottles in the dish room and pork ribs were in standing water. Two containers were not labeled with their common names.

The walk-in freezer had excessive ice build up and items stored on the floor.

The business was inspected again on April 14 and received a perfect score.

Gyros and Wings on Haywood Road was inspected on April 9 and received an 84, B, but when inspected again on April 17 was given a C with 97 points. The third inspection on April 21 received 100 points.

During the first inspection, the inspector found multiple food storage containers stacked and stored on the clean dish rack with old labels. In the kitchen cookline and prep cooler various foods were at improper temperatures including corn salsa, lettuce, shredded cheese and sliced tomatoes. This was a consecutive violation.

The inspector saw a residential insect killer in the kitchen.

Multiple ice scoops were stored with the handle touching the ice and a large cutting board on the prep cooler had deep scouring marks that cannot be cleaned and sanitized easily.

The wall and floor behind the fryers had a build-up of oil and debris.

The second inspection found improper temperatures for lettuce, sliced tomatoes and tzatziki sauce.

Hooters of Greenville was inspected on April 1 and was given 86 points, a B.

The inspector saw an employee fail to wash hands between handling dirty dishes and putting away clean dishes.

In the kitchen-drawer cooler under the grill were raw chicken wings and in the prep cooler pico at improper temperatures.

Clean glasses were stored next to the sink at the bar without protection of a splash guard and the prep sink and drain board for the dish washing area was not sealed to the wall. This was a consecutive violation.

A mop sink was not sealed to the wall.

There was a build up of oil/grease on the wheels and non-food contact components of the fryers, a consecutive violation, and build-up of debris on top of the dish machine.

The business was inspected again on April 10, earned 94 points but was given a C rating.

Blue cheese, sliced tomatoes and bread batter was at improper temperatures .

Inspected on April 17, the inspector awarded 99 points, marked down 1 because they saw holes in the ceiling were filled with foam that is not smooth and easily cleanable. The grade was an A.
