What’s going in downtown Lexington today. Why are there traffic detours?
Police are reminding residents that a stretch of Main Street in downtown Lexington will be closed Saturday during the town’s annual Wine Walk. Signed detours are set to begin at noon, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Main Street/US-1 will be closed from Lake Drive/SC-6 to Church Street on Saturday as the event takes place downtown, Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green said in a news release. The closure and detours are scheduled to run from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Dating back to 2014, Wine Walk is an annual spring event where residents with tickets can enjoy wine tasting and live music while strolling down East Main Street between South Church Street and North Lake Drive.
This year’s event will feature new and “exciting” additions, including golf and games, according to a post by event organizers on Facebook.
Specifically, ticketed guests will experience wine and beer samples at participating stops, live music from Easy Does It Duo, four themed food stations with bites from Scott Hall Catering, Pop Par Tee Golf Simulator with lawn games an artist alley featuring an art gallery on the street, according to organizers.
Under the detour plan, northbound traffic on Lake Drive heading to Main Street will be routed onto Corley Street, then to South Church Street and West Main Street. Drivers trying to continue along Main Street/US-1 on West Main will be detoured to South Church Street, Maiden Lane, South Lake Drive and back to East Main Street, the release states.
Police also reminded Wine Walk attendees to use public parking lots near and around downtown, warning that vehicles left in private business parking risk being towed at the owner’s expense.
