A new Mexican restaurant in Columbia’s Vista has an opening date. Here’s when
A well-known Mexican restaurant chain is set to open a new location in one of Columbia’s most prominent hospitality districts.
Qdoba Mexican Eats, which has restaurants across the U.S., plans to open a location at 1000 Gervais St. on May 20, a company spokesperson confirmed to The State. The restaurant will be at the corner of Gervais and Park streets in the heart of Columbia’s popular Vista district, just west of the South Carolina State House.
The Qdoba project was first announced last fall by Columbia’s Cason Development. The restaurant is on the first floor of the building at 1000 Gervais, with Cason Development noting that short-term rental apartments are planned for the upper floors. The building at 1000 Gervais was first built in 1929, per Richland County property records.
There are about 850 Qdoba Mexican restaurant locations across the U.S., according to data website ScrapeHero. The menu at Qdoba includes tacos, burritos, quesadillas, bowls, nachos and more. The company says on its website that it offers “freshly-made, Mexican-inspired food crafted with contemporary flavors that guests crave.”
The Vista remains one of Columbia’s most enduring hospitality districts, lined with restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, hotels and more. It’s a high-traffic area, with nearly 32,000 cars per day traveling down Gervais Street, per state Department of Transportation data.
