Just when you think Greenville has all manner of restaurant chains now comes a new one — Swig, the “Home of the Original Dirty Soda.”

The St. George, Utah-based chain says on its website they take your favorite soda and add fresh fruit, puree, and cream.

Swig was founded as a drive-thru in 2010 by Nicole Tanner, who told Utah Business magazine during the recession of 2009 she remembered the ice-cold Cokes she and her siblings would sneak out of her grandparents’ refrigerator (Ding Dongs or a Twinkie, too).

After she and her husband and their five children moved to St. George, they “needed a way to provide for our family,” she said.

“I knew many people in the nation had just lost their businesses and homes and needed a pick-me-up in their daily routine,” she said.

They started in what she called “an old, worn-out building in St. George right by Utah Tech University.”

Now they have more than 100 locations in 15 states.

Their original signature drink was the Dirty Dr. Pepper, which has coconut syrup, fresh lime, and a splash of half-and-half. Swig will open in the old Sonic Drive-In at 1534 Woodruff Road in mid-June.

There are also Swig locations in Indian Land and Rock Hill.
