A popular convenience store known for its food and other items is planning a location not far from downtown Lexington.

Parker’s Kitchen, which has more than 100 convenience stores in parts of Georgia and South Carolina, is planning a location at 5387 Augusta Road in Lexington, according to the town of Lexington’s April planning and zoning actions report. The company’s plans were listed as “under review” as of the April report.

Lexington County records show the property at 5387 Augusta Road is owned by Drayton-Parker Companies, the developer of Parker’s Kitchen stores. Land was being cleared at the site when a reporter rode by on Friday morning. The property is about a half-mile east of the Lexington County Library and about a mile-and-a-half east of the heart of downtown Lexington.

Parker’s is a well-known convenience store brand in coastal South Carolina and Georgia, as well as in the Augusta area, with more than 100 stores in total.

Parker’s is known for all the convenience store staples — gasoline, snacks, etc. — but also for having a number of hot food items in its kitchens. That includes breakfast items such as fish and grits, biscuits and gravy, biscuit sandwiches and more, as well as lunch items including chicken tenders and sandwiches, pork chops and fried fish.

The company is in the midst of developing several stores in the Midlands area, including on Garners Ferry Road in Columbia, on Earth Road in Elgin near northeast Columbia and on North Lake Drive in Lexington. The site at 5387 Augusta Road is along a busy thoroughfare that connects downtown Lexington to Interstate 20. More than 28,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Augusta Road, per state Department of Transportation statistics.
