This Columbia shop known for Gamecocks clothing is moving to a new location
A store that has long been known for its University of South Carolina clothing and other gear is moving to one of Columbia’s key hospitality districts.
Addam’s Gamecock Gear, which has been located at 152 Assembly St. for a number of years, is planning to move to 740 Gervais St. suite 200 in the Vista. There are posters on the windows at Addam’s current Assembly Street store announcing the planned move, noting that it will happen in “Summer 2026.” The store also has announced the move in posts and videos on its Instagram page.
An exact date for relocation hasn’t been announced. On business cards that have been provided to customers, Addam’s has encouraged customers to follow the store’s Instagram account for updates as the “journey unfolds.”
City of Columbia public records indicate permits have been issued for $300,000 in renovations and alterations at the 740 Gervais St. suite 200 location.
The building at 740 Gervais St. is fronted by the elegant Sylvan’s Jewelers, which relocated there in 2025 after decades on Main Street. The building was formerly home to the South Carolina Railroad Depot. In a preview video on Instagram — which includes the music from “2001: A Space Odyssey” that is deeply connected with USC sports — Addam’s indicated it would be going into the space that neighbors Sylvan’s in the long depot building.
Addam’s Gamecock Gear, also referred to as Addam’s University Bookstore, has long offered Gamecocks shirts, hats, jerseys, gifts and much more. As of June 1 it was still operating out of the 152 Assembly St. location, and was offering deep discounts on USC gear made by Under Armour. The university is switching from Under Armour to Nike as its main apparel provider.
