A salad restaurant chain that boasts 50 toppings and homemade dressings will open a Greenville location on Woodruff Road.

Signage went up for Salata Salad Kitchen in May but an opening date has not been announced,

Salata, founded in 2005 and based in Houston, has more than 100 locations in five states. All but seven are run by franchisers.

It offers salads and wraps.

Smoothie King franchisers Brian and Keri Leachman are the franchisees for the Greenville location and another in Myrtle Beach. They have signed to open one more but that location has not been announced.

Brian Leachman said the Greenville restaurant will open in November. They haven’t selected a location for Myrtle Beach yet.

They live in Murrells Inlet and have multiple Smoothie King locations, which they opened after their son Jonathan Mayzak, 20, a professional motocross rider, was killed in 2019 by an impaired driver.

He loved Smoothie King.

“We helped grow its presence in South Carolina quite significantly and then began looking for a new concept we could bring to the state,” Brian Leachman told Franchise Times. “We wanted something unique that the market hadn’t seen before.”

Before signing, they flew to Houston and anonymously tried out a couple of locations.

They “were impressed with their layout and how the salad bar format was a benefit to the staff and the guests,” Leachman told Franchise Times.

The Leachmans are involved in Chamber of Commerce events and have supported Coastal Carolina University’s football team.

Salata as a whole reaches out to the community by participating in food education, promoting active lifestyles, advocating for mental wellness and lending a hand in times of need.
