Eatery near Columbia switching to private event space and commissary kitchen
A restaurant near northeast Columbia that has been known for breakfast and lunch is ending regular service and changing to a place for private events and a commissary kitchen.
Eatery 117, located at 117 Spears Creek Church Road in Elgin, announced in a Wednesday Facebook post that its last day of regular service will be June 27. It will mark that occasion with a special event with cornhole and more called the Liberty Toss.
“We are transitioning from a public restaurant to a private event restaurant and commissary kitchen,” Eatery 117 said in the social media post. “We will operate our normal schedule the next couple of weeks and end with one last unforgettable party.”
That June 27 party, dubbed the Liberty Toss, will include a cornhole tournament with a $250 cash prize, a Roaming America trivia contest with prizes, food including burgers, hot dogs and bratwursts, and live music in the evening from Blues Deluxe.
Owners Kimberly and John Gagliardi opened Eatery 117 in June 2025, with a focus on breakfast and lunch. The couple had previously owned Random Tap, a bar and craft beer taproom, for about a decade at the same location.
Eatery 117 has been sharing the availability of commissary kitchen space at its facility on social media in recent weeks. Commissary kitchens, generally, are licensed and equipped commercial kitchens that are available to rent from third parties.
