Person laying in road struck and killed in late-night Richland County collision

S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was struck by a car early Sunday morning.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a 2017 Hyundai Elantra on Dodamead Street in Eastover near the intersection with Weston Street, Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover said.

The collision occurred about a block off of Old Eastover Road/Highway 764.

An Elantra traveling north on Dodamead around 12:27 a.m. Sunday struck an individual who was laying in the roadway, Glover said.

The deceased has not been publicly identified by the Richland County Coroner’s Office pending notification of the person’s family. The incident remains under investigation by S.C. Highway Patrol.
