Developers have plans to build 118 new townhomes behind a Garners Ferry Road shopping strip, just shy of Interstate 77.

The project, dubbed Cedar Cove at Drake St., will add 118 townhomes on about 7 acres between the Huntington Place apartment complex and an existing neighborhood. The new subdivision will fill land at the intersection of Drake and Clifton streets owned by Cedar Corp Inc.

The new neighborhood will include 2-bed, 2-bath and 3-bed, 2-bath townhomes.

Columbia’s Planning Commission gave early plans for the project approval Thursday.
