Search for missing teenager that Richland County sheriff believes is in danger

A search is underway in South Carolina for a missing teenager who could be in danger.

John Jean Jr., aka Jye, was publicly reported missing late Tuesday night by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The 18-year-old hasn’t been seen in a week, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

Jean was last seen at about 9:50 p.m. on July 8 at the intersection of John Mark Dial Drive and Bluff Road in Columbia, according to the release. That’s near Adams Pond, not far from Exit 5 on I-77.

There was no word if Jean was alone when he was last seen. The sheriff’s department did not say if foul play is suspected in Jean’s disappearance.

Jean has a medical condition that requires medication and is believed to be in danger, according to the release. Further information on his condition was not available.

The sheriff’s department described Jean as a 5-foot-7, 155-pound man with short black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, gray jeans, white socks and black slides while carrying a black backpack, according to the release.
