New VA building going up in Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) – A new Veterans Affairs Administration building is going up in Florence.
Area media outlets report that ground was broken Thursday on the new $1.4 million facility. The building will serve as the central location in Florence County for VA operations and have meeting space for area veteran’s groups.
It will also provide a place for family and friends to gather before funerals at the nearby Florence National Cemetery.
It’s also near the former site of the Florence Stockade, land that held Union prisoners of war near the end of the Civil War.
