13 displaced after fire breaks out at Columbia apartment complex

Columbia Fire Department officials said 13 people have been displaced from their homes after a fire broke out at an apartment complex Monday evening.

Firefighters responded to the 2500 block of Crofton Way in The Chimneys at Brookfield apartment complex, which is located just off of Decker Boulevard, just around 11 p.m., officials said.

Officials said firefighters were able to place the fire under control, but not before six apartments were affected by smoke and fire damages. The Red Cross has been called in to assist the families that were displaced. There were no injuries reported from the fire.

The Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause of the fire.
