Sunset Boulevard reopened to traffic following fire

West Columbia city officials said all eastbound lanes of Sunset Boulevard have been reopened after a fire broke out at a business in the area Wednesday morning.

Brian Carter, a city spokesman, said the West Columbia Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a business in the 1500 block of Sunset Boulevard.

West Columbia Fire Chief Wyatt Coleman said an overloaded extension cord located inside of the East Shore Coral business is what seems to have sparked the fire. The fire caused some damage to electrical equipment and furniture. Emergency crews were able to extinguish the fire before it caused severe damage.

There have been no injuries reported so far from officials.
