Mother of 4 killed in Friday morning crash on I-77
The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim that was killed in a single-vehicle collision Friday morning on I-77 southbound.
Coroner Gary Watts said 38-year-old Madelene Anderson, of West Columbia, died at the scene from head trauma sustained during the collision.
Anderson was alone in a 2003 Lincoln Navigator SUV traveling southbound on I-77 around 6 a.m. At mile marker 9, she lost control of her vehicle and ran off the left side of the road and into the median where the vehicle rolled several times, trooper David Jones of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Anderson was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Watts said she leaves behind four children, with ages ranging from four to 14.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash.
S.C. Highway Patrol officials and the Richland County coroner urges all motorists to wear their seat belts at all times when in a motor vehicle.
