Greer man charged in ax attack

A Greer man has been arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Jeronnie Danyel Freeman, 31, of 108 Oak St., allegedly assaulted a man with a hatchet on Aug. 22 during an altercation inside a store at 300 Austin St., Greer, according to a Greer Police Department incident report.

According to the report, Freeman walked into the store and hit Marcus Christopher Wilson, 32, of Greenville on the back of the head with an ax and then got into a further physical altercation with Wilson. Officers were dispatched to the scene at 10:37 p.m. Wilson suffered a large laceration to the back of his head that needed medical treatment, according to the report. A hatchet was recovered at the scene.

On Friday, Greer police went to 108 Oak St. and arrested Freeman. He was taken to the Greer City Jail, according to the report.
