Former Mauldin teacher pleads guilty in federal court to child porn charges

A former Mauldin Middle School teacher pleaded guilty this week in federal court to the distribution of child pornography, according to court documents.

Daniel Ray Archer, of Simpsonville, pleaded guilty to allegations that he distributed materials that contained child pornography, the U.S. Department of Justice said. Archer has not been sentenced in the case. He is facing 5 to 20 years in prison, according to a plea agreement. An indictment alleged he distributed the materials between July 2012 and February 2014.

Archer was employed as a physical education teacher and had worked at Mauldin Middle since 2007, according to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office.

Archer resigned from his position Jan. 1 after being placed on leave in December when school administrators were made aware of a criminal investigation, the Greenville County school district said.

A Greenville County Schools investigation this year found he allegedly traded photos of nearly 150 fully clothed middle schools students and high school cheerleaders in exchange for pornographic images.
