Columbia police plan Labor Day weekend checkpoints
Motorists can expect to see an increased police presence throughout Columbia’s entertainment districts for Labor Day weekend in an effort to crack down on drunk driving and speeding.
Police Chief Skip Holbrook said Columbia police are working in conjunction with the South Carolina Highway Patrol’s “Sober or Slammer” campaign. Heavy police presence will be seen near Columbia’s entertainment districts and other heavily traveled areas.
Every vehicle that enters a checkpoint will be stopped, Holbrook said.
Officers will check drivers for:
▪ Valid driver’s license.
▪ Possible impairment.
▪ Seat belt use.
▪ Proper child restraints (when applicable).
▪ Any other observations of law that may be observed.
