Midlands Gives fundraising registration now open for 2016 event

Registration for a fundraising event that raised more than $1 million last year is now open to nonprofits in the Midlands.

The third annual Midlands Gives campaign is a 24-hour local online giving challenge that is part of National Give Local America, which encourages donors to give to organizations in communities. The event, presented by Central Carolina Community Foundation, is set for May 3.

Last year’s event yielded more than $1.5 million for more than 250 nonprofits, making it one of the top 10 events of it kind in the country.

The event is open to any 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service that also has an office in one of the 11 Midlands counties the foundation serves – Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda and Sumter.

Registration is available online at midlandsgives.org and is open until Feb. 29.

Organizations that register by Nov. 15 will be eligible for a $500 early bird prize, which includes a training package offered November through January by the S.C. Association of Nonprofit Organizations. Normally fees to attend the trainings cost about $450, but Central Carolina Community Foundation is underwriting the programs so nonprofits only pay $25.
