Funeral arrangements set for slain Forest Acres police officer
Funeral arrangements have been set for the Forest Acres police officer who was shot and killed by a suspect Wednesday morning at the Richland Mall in Forest Acres.
Police Chief Gene Sealy said the funeral for 32-year-old Greg Alia, a seven-year veteran of the department, will be held Saturday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, located at 3512 Devine St., at 11 a.m.
Sealy said Alia’s death has left a large void in the Forest Acres Police Department. Alia positively impacted everyone he worked with and the community he lived and served in in many ways, Sealy said.
Sealy said Alia is survived by his wife, son and his parents, all of whom live in the Forest Acres community.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to assist the family may do so by making a donation at any First Citizens Bank in South Carolina in the name of Law Enforcement Chaplains for South Carolina Emergency Fund for the Alia family.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for those wishing to make a donation.
