Sumter man with early dementia and young son reported missing

A 76-year-old Sumter man, suffering from the early stages of dementia, and his adopted 6-year-old son, were reported missing Sumter police said in a release late Friday night.

George Lawson was last seen around 4:30 p.m. when he picked up Sean Lawson from the child’s school, the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church Christian Academic School in Sumter.

The elder Lawson stands about 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighs about 182 pounds and has white hair and a beard. Sean Lawson is about 3 feet 5 inches tall and was last seen wearing his school uniform; navy blue pants, a white polo shirt, black sneakers with green trim and a blue jacket trimmed in black with a zippered front.

George Lawson was driving a white 2011 Chevy Cruze with the SC license tag number LAK529.
