New date announced for Columbia’s Walk for Life

The Walk for Life will now be held Jan. 9 at Finlay Park.

The Palmetto Health Foundation made the announcement on social media Wednesday. The event raises money in the fight against breast cancer.

The event, one of the Midlands’ largest annual walks, originally was set for Oct. 17. But Palmetto Health Foundation said in a recent news release it was important for law enforcement to focus their efforts on flood recovery, rather than diverting resources to manage traffic and walkers during the downtown Columbia event.

Individual registration is open at WalkForLifeColumbia.org.

Team captains and individual walkers/runners are encouraged to pick up shirts and wear them to the S.C. State Fair for free admission Oct. 25.
