Coroner identifies body of missing man found in overturned vehicle

The Richland County Coroner’s Office has identified the body of an individual who was reported missing by family members in September.

Coroner Gary Watts said 54-year-old Christopher Michael Felder, of Winnsboro, was last seen by his family on Sept. 22 and was reported missing on Sept. 26 by his brother.

Watts said on Friday afternoon, South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers discovered a vehicle upside down off the roadway on Thursday. When the highway patrol located the vehicle, a body was also found inside. Initial reports suggest that the vehicle left the roadway, struck several trees and then overturned.

Watts said Felder was identified by using x-rays of previous medical procedures. An autopsy conducted Friday morning revealed that Felder died from multi-trauma associated with the crash and that the wreck probably happened around Sept. 22.
