Rikard resigns from Lexington 3 School Board

Veteran Lexington 3 School Board member Benjie Rikard is stepping down for unspecified health problems.

Rikard has been on the seven-member panel overseeing classrooms in the Batesburg-Leesville area for 31 years.

An election to fill the vacancy created by his resignation will occur in February at a date to be determined.

The winner of the nonpartisan race will serve through the end of 2016.
