Wreck on I-77 northbound blocks two lanes

A multiple vehicle crash closed two lanes of Interstate 77 northbound Wednesday morning.

Responders with the Columbia Fire Department spotted the wreck while on the way back from another incident, and called it in at 8 a.m., said department spokesman Brick Lewis.

One person in the crash had to be extricated, Lewis said.

As of 8:34 a.m., the S.C. Department of Transportation tweeted from @SCDOTMidlands that the crash had closed two lanes of I-77 near Exits 9A and 9B. As of 8:47 a.m., the department tweeted that just the right lane was closed.
