South Carolina Law Enforcement Division officials said an Orangeburg man was taken into custody and charged with murder following the Oct. 24 shooting death of a man in Bamberg.

Kwamaine Jarelle Ross, 25, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime on Thursday after a witness of the shooting was able to identify Ross in a photographic lineup, officials said.

An affidavit filed in the case said that on Oct. 24, Bamberg police were dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Sanders Street in Bamberg in reference to a shooting. When police arrived they found Travis Digby dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside of the home, the affidavit said.

Witnesses told police they saw two black males near the victim’s home and later heard gunshots before they said they saw a woman run from the residence screaming, the affidavit said.

Investigators were able to locate Digby’s fiancee who said she was coming home from work just after 9 p.m. when she walked inside the residence and heard the gunshots, the affidavit said. She then ran from the home and turned around to see one of the suspects, later identified as Ross, standing in the doorway.

The victim’s fiancee then identified Ross as the potential suspect she saw standing in the doorway through a photographic lineup, the affidavit said.

Ross was taken to the Bamberg County Detention Center where he will be held pending a bond hearing.
