Richland County aerial mosquito spraying delayed until next week
The aerial mosquito spraying planned for about 114,000 acres of lower Richland County has been postponed again, Richland County announced in a news release Friday.
The spraying was postponed because rain and mist have led to reduced visibility over the past few days, the county said. Richland County had originally planned the spraying for Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
Now it will take place next week, “when weather conditions are expected to improve,” the county said.
Richland County has never before applied aerial treatment to curb the mosquito population, the county said this week.
That measure is necessary because the mosquito population has gotten out of hand in lower Richland County, taking advantage of warm temperatures and standing water left over by October’s flooding, said Richland County Vector Control Director Tammy Brewer.
