Rain, rain won’t go away
November isn’t yet setting records for rainfall around Columbia like October, but the month is starting off awfully wet.
With more rain expected on Tuesday, all but one of the first 10 days of November will have been soggy.
Columbia’s coming off a month with more than 14 inches of rain — flooding part of the region and setting a capital city record dating back 128 years, according to the National Weather Service.
The rest of South Carolina also has suffered through a wet fall. Last month was the state’s second-wettest October on record. The weather has taken a toll, with preliminary estimates of $300 million in crop damage and $35 million in lost tourism business.
There is some good news: The rain should stop in Columbia through the weekend.
12 out of 15: Past days with some rainfall in Columbia, according to the National Weather Service
27 out of 50: Past days with some rain in Columbia
7: Number of days with more than trace amounts of rain in the Columbia area during November — tying the average for the whole month
16.5: Inches of rain in Columbia since Oct. 1 — nearly three times the average for October and November combined
