After repeated weather delays, Richland County plans to spray for mosquitoes around dusk Wednesday over Lower Richland, an area plagued by increased mosquito infestation following the October flood.

The insecticide to be sprayed by airplane is the chemical Dibrom, the county vector control office said in a release.

Dibrom “poses no undue risk to humans or the environment” except for bees, the county said. Beekeepers in the some 114,000 acres of spraying area are urged to cover their hives during the application period.

Residents who have questions about the aerial treatments may contact Richland County Vector Control at 803-576-2425 or the Richland County Ombudsman at 803-929-6000.
