Forest Acres City Council on Tuesday OK’d a more than $67,000 contract for a renovation of the city’s flood-damaged police station.

The renovation started Monday, Forest Acres City Administrator Mark Williams said. The city hopes to have the work completed in two months, he said.

Forest Acres will pay Palmetto Construction and Realty $55,471 for flood repairs and $11,722 for workspace improvements, according to City Council’s agenda.

Much of the station’s first floor was ruined during the flooding on Oct. 4. The Forest Acres Police Department has crowded into the second floor of the station, and the 911 dispatchers are working out of a mobile command unit parked outside.
