Newberry man wanted by several law enforcement agencies taken into custody
A suspect who is wanted by three law enforcement agencies in the state was taken into custody Tuesday morning, Newberry County Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Officials said 28-year-old Maurice Vandell Bailey, of Newberry, was taken into custody after investigators were able to track him to Abbeville.
According to officials, investigators from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Abbeville County saw Bailey traveling in a a vehicle on Highway 28 in Abbeville County. When investigators stopped the vehicle, Bailey was taken into custody without incident. Officials said Bailey had a pistol in his possession when he was arrested.
Bailey was wanted by the Newberry Police Department for three counts of assault and battery with intent to kill and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. He was also wanted by the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office for forgery.
Bailey was also on probation for possession of a firearm with a obliterated serial number. He has been charged with violation of parole by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services, officials said.
According to officials, Bailey is also facing a General Sessions bench warrant for failure to appear in court for charges related to distribution of crack cocaine, distribution of crack cocaine within proximity of a park or school and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
Bailey was transported to the Newberry County Detention Center, officials said.
