S.C. Department of Public Safety announces one weekend road death

South Carolina Department of Public Safety officials said there was one person killed on South Carolina roadways from Nov. 13 to Nov. 15.

The death occurred on a US route, SC road or secondary road, according to officials. The death was a moped rider who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

As of Nov. 15, 825 people have died on the state’s highways, compared to 709 highway deaths during the same time period in 2014. Of the 548 motor vehicle occupants killed in 2015, 283 were not wearing seat belts.

Officials said 97 pedestrians have died compared to 91 in 2014, 120 motorcyclists have died compared to 83 in 2014 and 13 bicyclists have died compared to 13 in 2014.
