The flag of France will fly over downtown Greenville today to show solidarity with the country following the weekend terrorist attacks in Paris.

The ceremony at 11:45 a.m. today includes a moment of silence as city leaders and representatives of French tire company Michelin raise the flag outside City Hall.

“On behalf of City Council and the entire city of Greenville, we pause today to gather in solidarity, offering our deepest sympathy and support of the people of France,” Mayor Knox White said. “As an international community that includes a 40-year relationship with Michelin, our thoughts and prayers are extended to our local French family and those impacted across the world.”

The assault on a concert hall, a soccer stadium and other entertainment-related targets in the downtown Paris left 129 dead, including the gunmen-turned-suicide bombers.

The terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility and has threatened more attacks on Western powers.
