After Paris attacks, Midlands officials urge vigilance

Midlands law enforcement officials are encouraging citizens to be watchful in the wake of terrorist attacks in Paris.

“We always tell the public if something doesn’t look or feel right, report it,” Lexington County sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Adam Myrick said Monday. “Don’t take any chances. Something can happen in New York, Paris and yes, Lexington. The best rule of thumb is when it doubt, report it. Be ready to describe the who, what, when, where and why of what you saw.”

Columbia police are keeping a closer watch, spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.

“Being aware of the Paris attacks, our officers are in a heightened state of vigilance,” she said. “We ask citizens to call 911 immediately to report any suspicious activity.”

Richland County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Curtis Wilson did not say if the department would consider additional security measures.
