General Information Services Inc., one of the nation’s largest background screening companies, will open a $2.7 million facility in Richland County that will create 91 jobs during the next five years, according to the state Department of Commerce.

The company, based in Chapin, is leasing 18,000 square feet of space at 1001 Pinnacle Point Dr. near I-77 and Farrow Road. The company already employees about 110 people in its current northeast Columbia office.

The S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved a $50,000 grant to Richland County to assist with the costs of property improvements.

GIS was established in 1966 to provide screening services exclusively to the insurance industry. Today, the company said, its customers include some of the world’s largest employers. For more information on the company, visit www.geninfo.com.
