CAYCE, S.C. (AP) – Police in South Carolina say a man who fired on officers who were trying to arrest him on drug-related charges has been shot and killed by the officers in Cayce, just west of Columbia.
Cayce city spokeswoman Ashley Hunter says the confrontation occurred around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.
One officer was shot and wounded and the other officer was hurt in the struggle. Hunter says both officers were taken to a local hospital and are expected to fully recover.
The names of those involved have not been released.

The State Law enforcement Division is investigating the shooting, the 45th time this year that officers have fired their weapons at a suspect in South Carolina.
There were 42 shootings involving police in South Carolina last year.
