Driver given citation after hitting motorcyclist at Gervais, Assembly streets
The driver of a vehicle in a motorcycle collision Wednesday morning was given a citation by Columbia police, officials said.
Jennifer Timmons, a department spokeswoman, said police were dispatched to the intersection of Gervais and Assembly streets at 7 a.m. in reference to a motor-vehicle collision.
Timmons said the Columbia Police Department’s traffic safety unit determined the motorcycle was traveling westbound on Gervais Street, and the car was traveling east on Gervais Street when it attempted to make a left turn onto Assembly Street.
While making the turn, the car struck the motorcyclist, Timmons said. The driver of the car was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way.
Timmons said the rider of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
