Rain in Columbia Wednesday night, Thursday morning melts into sunny weather over the weekend
Oh, sun, why do you tease us so?
Another bout of rainy weather hit the Columbia area Wednesday night and Thursday morning, forcing National Weather Service officials to issue a flood advisory for the Congaree River until Saturday morning.
A Tornado Watch was issued for Newberry County and lasted until about 3 a.m., according to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
Roughly .71-inches of rain, according to rain gauges at the Hamilton-Owens Airport and the Columbia-Metropolitan Airport. The rains left standing water on many roadways, which has left Corley Mill Road closed for the time being. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling on wet roads.
Thursday has a 40 percent chance of bringing more showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m. The rest of the day is predicted to be mostly sunny with a high near 76, according to weather service forecasts. Thursday night will be mostly clear with a low around 49.
Friday is projected to be sunny with a high of 65, which drops to a low of 41 at night. Saturday is more of the same with sunny weather and a high of 59 during the day, which drops to a low of 31 at night.
