Sumter County deputies searching for 67-year-old schizophrenic man
Sumter County deputies are searching for an elderly man who was reported missing after he was last seen at a nursing home early Tuesday morning.
Braden Bunch, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said 67-year-old Herbert Smith was last seen around 3 a.m. at a nursing home in the 100 block of Geddings Road. Smith has several prescriptions for ailments, including schizophrenia, and it is believed that he is without those medications, which he takes on a daily basis.
Bunch said Smith is described as a white male with gray hair and brown-hazel eyes. Smith stands about 6-foot tall and weighs approximately 170-pounds. He was last seen wearing a black, hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.
Bunch said deputies believe that he could be heading towards the Camden area.
Anyone with information regarding Smith’s whereabouts is urged to call the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at (803) 545-2000, or Crimestoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
