Lexington County coroner identifies two killed in motorcycle collision in Irmo
LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC T he Lexington County Coroner’s Office has identified two individuals that were killed after their motorcycle collided with an SUV Sunday evening.
Coroner Margaret Fisher said 24-year-old Jay Joy, of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, 21-year-old Andrea Barwick, of Chapin, was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital following the collision.
Neither of the individuals were wearing helmets at the time of the crash, Fisher said.
Fisher said Joy was driving his motorcycle, with Barwick as a passenger, just after 6 p.m. near the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and Weeping Cherry Lane in Irmo when it collided with a black SUV.
The driver of the SUV did not sustain any injuries, Fisher said.
The collision will remain under investigation by the coroner’s office and the Irmo Police Department.
