Orangeburg County deputies have charged a Colleton County man for allegedly using a credit card stolen during a burglary, officials said.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said 33-year-old Christopher Hiott, of Walterboro, has been charged with financial transaction card fraud after turning himself in to law enforcement.

Ravenell said Hiott became a person of interest in the case after a burglary took place at a Binnicker’s Bridge Road residence in August. The home owner reported that a golf cart, welder and several other items were taken from the home, including a financial card.

Two days after the burglary, a bank’s ATM camera in North captured an image of Hiott using the stolen credit card, which he had used to purchase more than $2,500 worth of items.

If convicted, Ravenell said Hiott faces a fine between $3,000 and $5,000 and up to five years in prison.
